An Unconventional Xmas Tree

My family and I live on a tree covered mountain property that includes knob cone pines, incense cedars, fir, spruce, and redwood trees that we usually find to cut a tree down for Christmas. they tend to be "Charlie Brown" trees which we favor.

In 2006 we had the brush extensively cleared around the house and outbuildings for fire prevention measures. We were unable to find a tree that we could cut and use this year so we ended up cutting a Madrone. Madrone's are considered an evergreen with broad leaves and a reddish bark that peels away and is something that nature collectors grab up and stick in their collection bags.

Here's the tree we cut down all decorated. This morning the leaves were a little droopy so I'm hoping that it lasts until Christmas!

  1. Maybe it is unconventional, but hey .... it's just like you (us?)! :-)

  2. Fun tree. Did I spot jaws as part of the ornaments?

  3. Yes Joanne, there are flaws. I think you're talking about the leaves that were chewed on my some critter or the brown spots? Natural flaws.

  4. I love your tree, your kauai pictures, and don't even get me started again on the things no one and no book (and i've read them all!) prepares you for, on getting old(er). I am going to devote a whole blog page on that topic one day!
