Botanical & Rust Dye Print Classes in SoCal

Welcome to "Where fish fly"  coined by my friend Roxanne when she visited me.

What am I up to? Today I am getting ready to host a BBQ at my house along with my husband who has been up and down all night checking on the meat, brisket, pork butt, and ribs.  He puts the meat in his smoker for hours and then later it will get put on the grill and then to plate.  It is delicious everytime!

Michael's smoker made from our old dishwasher, truly recycled!

Kate Thompson was just here for a week and I took her weekend long class creating a book with lots of new techniques I learned.  We started with fabrics then added plaster, gesso, and matte medium to prepare the pages for photo transfers, painting, collage, etc. Kate and I had spent the week before in my studio indigo dyeing and creating botanical and rust dye prints which I used in some of my pages. My book is far from complete because I am a slow artist and often find I need a little time to absorb what I learned and for this book time to figure out what else I want to add to the pages.  But this class gave me a jumpstart for the retreat I'll be taking with her in Orvieto, Italy in Sept.

This August I will be presenting two botanical and rust dye workshops at Gilding the Lily in Southern California.   I've never been to Gilding but have heard so many great things about the store I just cannot wait. Oh and of course after meeting Dede Warren who manages classes there I can't wait to get to hang out with her some more, we really hit it off from our first meeting.

Classes are the last weekend of August and you can click here to get all the info.

Before that on August 6th I will be vending at Art Unraveled in Phoenix, AZ.  I have taught and vended there for many years and always enjoy this venue, the promoters are fabulous (Chuck & Linda) and I've met some wonderful friends there.  This year I didn't apply to teach and will only be vending and I get to take a class!

I better go help Michael now, it looks like my angel wings are starting to unfurl.  :-)
